Abbotsford, BC – October 1st, 2026 – Did you know that nearly half of all women and girls in Canada have experienced Intimate Partner Violence? October marks the beginning of Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month and the launch of the AbbyPD’s Victim Services Unit’s ‘Purple Lights Nights’ campaign.

The goal of this campaign is to send a clear message that intimate partner violence has no place in our community. Throughout the month, the colour purple will serve as a powerful symbol of awareness, support, and solidarity for those affected by intimate partner violence. As part of this initiative, AbbyPD Headquarters will be illuminated in purple each night, standing as a visible reminder of our collective commitment to prevention, education, support for survivors, and an end to abuse.

A series of events will also take place throughout the month, beginning with the Fraser Valley Purple Lights Nights Launch on October 3 at 10:00 a.m. in Jubilee Park. Together, AbbyPD, community partners, stakeholders, and supporters will stand united to raise awareness, foster meaningful dialogue, and help break the cycle of intimate partner violence.

Through these events, we hope to reinforce a clear and important message: no one should face abuse alone. We encourage anyone affected by intimate partner violence, whether directly or indirectly, to seek support, knowing that help, resources, and a compassionate community are available.

Purple Lights Nights is also an opportunity to honour those who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence, support survivors on their healing journey, and offer hope to those who continue to experience abuse. Intimate partner violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstance. AbbyPD remains committed to supporting victims, strengthening community awareness, and holding offenders accountable.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, help is available and you are not alone.
