Pedestrian struck on Highway 1 in Abbotsford

Early this morning at 2:52 am, Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 1 between the Clearbrook and McCallum Road exits resulting in the road closure of the westbound lanes.

Upon arrival, emergency service workers located a man in the right west-bound lane who had been struck by a vehicle; the man had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. 

The driver called police, remained on scene and is cooperating with this investigation. He did not sustain any injuries but was severely shaken.

Names will not be released at this time. We offer our condolences to the deceased man’s family and friends.

The Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, police investigators, B.C. Coroners Service continue their investigation this morning but advise that speed or impairment are not considered a factor. The highway was re-opened this morning at 7:45 am.

Investigators are seeking witnesses, CCTV footage and dashcam footage from those who may be been travelling on or near Highway 1, between 2:45 am an 3 am.  If you can assist, please call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
