Since 2008, 13 roadside workers have died and 213 were injured in B.C.
Let’s Stop This!

On May 31, 2019, the Abbotsford Police Department will be partnering with IRSU
(Integrated Road Safety Unit), WorkSafeBC, and the Work Zone Safety Alliance to raise
awareness about the risks workers face while working on, or alongside, our roadways.
The goal of the Cone Zone Campaign, now in its ninth year, is to prevent injuries and
death of roadside workers by reminding all motorists to obey the law when approaching a cone zone.

Our Mission:
To make Abbotsford the safest city in B.C.
In 2018, two roadside workers died, and another 29 were injured as a result of being hit by a motor vehicle. Since 2009, a total of 13 roadside workers have been killed and another 213 have been injured under similar circumstances.
The Abbotsford Police Department is committed to making our city and roads the safest in BC. To achieve this, our citizens and drivers must be attentive. When you see cones, slow down! Prepare to stop or be redirected. Always follow the instructions given by roadside workers.

The campaign will include an enforcement blitz at the Mt. Lehman Rd. and Marshall Rd.
worksite, beginning at 9 a.m. on May 31st. Tickets to drivers can range from $196 for
disobeying a flag person, to $368 for using an electronic device while driving.

Representatives of Abbotsford Police Department will be on site and available for
interviews.
