Abbotsford, BC – January 8th, 2026 – During the first five months of 2025, the Abbotsford Police Department and residents of the Sumas Prairie area observed a troubling trend—a 67% increase in property crime-related offences.
In response, on June 4th, 2025, AbbyPD announced that members of AbbyPD’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) had executed two search warrants at residences in Abbotsford and Mission. These warrants marked the beginning of a focused effort to hold those responsible for this surge in crime accountable.

Over the following months, members of CRU worked tirelessly, employing a range of investigative strategies and followed the evidence wherever it led. This effort was supported through funding provided by the Provincial Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) Program.
In late November 2025, 12 charges were approved against 34-year-old prolific offender Cody Ashton, which included Break & Enter, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property, Motor Vehicle Theft, Theft Over $5,000, and Mischief.
Co-accused 42-year-old Justin Graham and 30-year-old Kayla Hellstrom were each charged with three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Additionally, Graham faces an extra charge for Breach of a Release Order.
This investigation sends a clear message: crime will not be tolerated in Abbotsford. AbbyPD is committed to relentlessly pursuing those who victimize our community and ensuring they are held fully accountable. Through determination, strategic enforcement, and strong partnerships, we will continue to protect our city and uphold the safety and trust our residents deserve.
