The Abbotsford Police Department reminds everyone to avoid leaving valuables such as new purchases, gifts, electronics or purses in your unattended vehicle.

If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, please lock them in your trunk where they will be out of view. Avoid dropping off purchases to a parked vehicle and then walking away – opportunistic thieves are already scoping out mall parking lots, residential streets and driveways.

Annually, Abbotsford sees a spike in thefts during the holiday season. During this time, thieves are presented a greater opportunity to target shoppers, stealing packages from homes, off front porches and from vehicles.  Please take a few minutes to protect your property.

A few tips to protect you and your property this holiday season:

  • Follow the 9pm routine – by 9pm each night, ensure valuables have been removed from your vehicles (or move them out of sight), and that you lock up your car and home.  Turn on an outside light and/or alarm systems if you have them.  More details on the 9pm routine can be found at https://bit.ly/37nVqob.

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something suspicious- report it!
