Abbotsford, BC – May 7th, 2026 – Road safety in Abbotsford starts with individual choices made behind the wheel every day, and the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) is reminding drivers that safe roads are a shared responsibility.
Whether travelling to work, school, or around the community, every driver plays a critical role in keeping Abbotsford’s roadways safe. Simple, positive decisions—such as slowing down, avoiding distractions, and driving sober—can make a meaningful difference in preventing collisions and injuries.
To reinforce this important message, AbbyPD has partnered with Great Canadian Oil Change on a local road safety initiative aimed at engaging drivers in a practical and approachable way. Through this partnership, co-branded car air fresheners featuring the road safety message “Safe Roads Start With YOU. Every Choice Matters” will be distributed to community members at participating Great Canadian Oil Change locations in Abbotsford during your vehicle service.
“This initiative is about personal responsibility,” said Sergeant Pat Kelly of AbbyPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit “Road safety isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about each driver making positive choices every time they get behind the wheel. If everyone does their part, our roads become safer for all road users.”
The partnership reflects a shared commitment from AbbyPD and Great Canadian Oil Change to support community safety beyond the roadway. By meeting drivers where they already are, the initiative encourages everyday conversations about road safety and reinforces the importance of mindful driving habits.
“Every driver who visits Great Canadian Oil Change is someone's parent, child, partner, or friend, and that's never lost on us. Partnering with AbbyPD on this road safety initiative is one way for us to look out for the people behind the wheel, as well as their vehicles. We hope every air freshener handed out serves as a quiet reminder that safer roads truly do start with the choices each of us make”, says Tim Ball Franchise owner.
AbbyPD encourages all drivers to remember that road safety begins with individual actions. Small choices—such as buckling up, obeying traffic laws, and showing courtesy to other road users—collectively help reduce risk and keep Abbotsford’s roads safer for everyone.
