AbbyPD investigating shots fired call on Esquimalt Terrace, suspect in police custody

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 10:00 pm, Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to the 32600 block of Esquimalt Terrace for a report of a shot fired at a residence.  When officers arrived, they found evidence consistent with a shot being fired into a residence.  A family, including teenagers, were inside the home at the time of the shooting and fortunately no one was injured.

Within minutes, numerous police resources responded to the area and located the suspect a short distance away.  The Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service responded to this incident; while tracking, the police dog located a shotgun nearby. 

A 20-year-old Abbotsford man, who is well-known to police, faces numerous charges, including, discharging a firearm, breaking and entering, and breaching numerous court conditions.  Of note, this suspect is currently prohibited from possessing firearms.

Investigators are in the preliminary stages of this investigation.  While the motive is not known at this time, there is no connection between the suspect and this family.  The family is not known to the police and this incident is not believed to be gang related. 

Abbotsford Police Patrol officers, Forensic Identification Unit officers and Major Crime Detectives continue their investigation today and will be canvassing the area for video and additional witnesses.  More information about the suspect will be released when obtained by investigators.
