AbbyPD investigating fatal pedestrian involved collision on Highway 1

Tonight, Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 9:49 pm, Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to a collision involving a pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 between McCallum Road and Sumas Way.

Upon arrival, emergency service workers located a pedestrian in the westbound lanes who a semi-truck had struck. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by BC EHS.  Sadly, they have succumbed to their injuries. The AbbyPD are currently confirming the identity of the deceased and have no further details at this time.

The driver involved in the collision remained on the scene and is cooperating with this investigation. The driver did not sustain any injuries and is very shaken by this incident.

The Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, police investigators and the B.C. Coroners Service continues its investigation. Highway 1 is currently closed westbound between Sumas Way and McCallum Road. AbbyPD will provide an update on our social media once the highway reopens.

Investigators seek witnesses, CCTV footage and dashcam footage from those who may have been travelling on the highway just before this collision. If you can assist, please call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
