Executive Assistant to the Chief Constable

 Backfill for Mat Leave - Up to 18 months

The Executive Assistant provides highly confidential senior administrative services to the Chief Constable and the Abbotsford Police Board as required by monitoring, coordinating, researching, and assisting in the completion of related duties within the Office of the Chief Constable.  This is a busy, high-profile position that demands the utmost professionalism, judgment, confidentiality, confidence in decision making, and the ability to prioritize and be adaptable to constantly changing priorities.  This position requires interaction with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders including the Police Board, to convey information and promote positive and respectful relationships. 

Candidates will have Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary education and/or courses in administration, with a minimum of five (5) years related office experience at an executive level or suitable combination of training and experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of the organizational structure and functions of the Abbotsford Police Department and the Police Board is required.  Experience in a law office, public sector, or policing environment is considered an asset.   

A high degree of proficiency is required in office technology including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, MS Outlook, Adobe, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and minute taking.  

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and tact.  They will be resourceful, have strong attention to detail, be a strong project manager, and have the ability to critically analyze information, problems and situations to formulate logical solutions and recommendations. Excellent editing and document drafting skills are required.

Community Policing VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS

Volunteers must be:

  • Clear of a criminal record
  • Must be 18 years or older (some programs may require a volunteer to be 19 years or older)
  • Must have own transportation to and from their volunteer position
  • Must have a good command of the English language both written and spoken
  • Must pass and maintain a criminal record and drivers abstract, volunteers may be required to complete a lifestyle and integrity questionnaire
  • Must have sufficient time to volunteer
  • Must be committed to working a minimum of 8 hours a month
     


Volunteer Commitment

Volunteers are expected to adhere to the following:

  • One year commitment following training
  • Sign agreements on ethics, confidentiality, and a contract
  • Attend all sessions of Basic Training and Program Training
  • Attend volunteer staff meetings as scheduled
  • Must be committed to working a minimum of 8 hours per month

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS for victim services

Worker Commitment

Volunteers are expected to adhere to the following:

  • One year commitment following training;
  • Sign agreements on ethics and confidentiality
  • Attend all sessions of Basic Training
  • Work a four hour office shift each week and assist with Crisis Response shifts
  • Optional: attend workshops and/or conferences as they are available
     


Requirements

The qualified applicant will:

  • Reside within 30 minutes of our APD Headquarters at 2838 Justice Way
  • Be primarily interested in aiding those individuals victimized by crime and trauma
  • Have integrity and be able to work effectively within a police environment
  • Be committed to working one 4 hour shift in the office each week and two 12 hour on call shifts each month. In addition, be committed to attend all required training sessions and staff meetings
  • Be mature and demonstrate good judgment
  • Be honest, responsible and reliable
  • Have a valid B.C. Class 5Driver’s Licence and have obtained and maintained provincial vehicle insurance
  • Be able to obtain and maintain an enhanced security clearance by the Abbotsford Police Department
  • Be of good moral character and conduct and be willing to sign a code of ethics
  • Be able to deal with individuals in a non-judgmental, non-prejudicial manner
  • Be people oriented and personable
  • Be computer literate
  • Be able to write and communicate well. Use appropriate language at all times
  • Be able to take directions and yet think independently
  • Take an oath of confidentiality and understand that any breach of confidentiality is cause for immediate termination
  • Present a professional demeanor and adhere to the ascribed dress code
  • Be flexible
  • Be able to work harmoniously with others
  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate strong self-awareness and good stress management
