Communications & Engagement Specialist
Under the supervision of the Sergeant, Strategic Communications & Public Engagement, the Communications and Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and applying communications strategies that support AbbyPD's organizational goals. Key responsibilities include creating content for various channels, executing media and public relations, analyzing campaign performance, and acting as a liaison with stakeholders and the public. They are responsible for crafting messaging that is consistent across all platforms, while also monitoring brand reputation and public opinion.
Job Duties:
- Support development of internal and external strategic communication plans to align with organizational objectives. This includes identifying target audiences, setting goals, and proposing specific tactics.
- Create and deliver a wide range of content, including press releases, speeches, website copy, social media posts, and reports. Plan, film, edit, and produce video materials such as press conferences, interviews, and other visual content required to support AbbyPD's communication strategies.
- Act as a media contact, arrange interviews, and lead press conferences. Develop and maintain positive relationships with the media. Conduct media interviews in a variety of formats, including camera, as required.
- Plan and implement public relations programs to manage the organizations public image, inform stakeholders, and build community relations.
- As a member of an integrated team, may develop and maintain social media accounts, create engaging content, and monitor online conversations and sentiment.
- Track, monitor, and analyze the effectiveness of communication campaigns using key metrics. Report on identified trends and results and make recommendations for improvement.
- Support crisis communications by developing strategic messaging with the Sergeant of Strategic Communications during emergencies.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including organizational leaders, employees, and the public, to keep them informed.
The candidate must have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years experience in strategic communications, media relations, or public engagement. Advanced proficiency in video production and software applications used for media monitoring is required, as well as strong applied knowledge of social media platforms, analytics tools, and digital engagement strategies. Experience working within the media industry is preferred.
The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills, builds strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and thrives in high-pressure environments while adapting to constantly changing priorities.
