Volunteer Opportunity: Abbotsford Police Volunteer Programs

About:
The Abbotsford Police Department is committed to public safety, crime prevention, and strong community partnerships. We are seeking reliable, community-minded volunteers to support our outreach, education, and crime prevention programs throughout the year.

Position Overview:
Volunteers support the Abbotsford Police Department in one or more of the following programs: Educational Events, Citizens Patrol, Road Safety, Child Car Seat Safety, Bait Car Support, and Safety Talk Presentations. These positions offer valuable training, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to serve the community alongside dedicated police and civilian staff.

Responsibilities (role-dependent):

Assist at public educational events and community engagement tables;
Provide crime prevention presence on Citizens Patrol in marked volunteer vehicles (paired shifts);
Support Road Safety operations such as Speed Watch and Distracted Driving awareness;
Assist with targeted crime prevention programs;
Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment;
Deliver scripted safety talks to community, youth and seniors groups, as well as selected community partners;
Observe, document, and report safety concerns or suspicious activity to staff when required.

Requirements:

Minimum 18 years of age for educational events roles (19+ for Citizens Patrol/Road Safety roles);
Strong interpersonal communication skills with comfort engaging the public;
Ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and community members;
Reliability with scheduling, attendance, and confidentiality expectations;
Willingness to learn, follow procedures, and represent AbbyPD professionally;
Daytime, evening and weekend availability as required by program schedules;
For Citizens Patrol / Road Safety programs: BC Class 5 Drivers License; and,
Clear police background check.
