Police Records Check
What is a Police Records Check?
A Police Records Check is a Criminal Records check as well as a search of all police records held in the information database. This includes any and all files where a person may be named, regardless of outcome.
The Abbotsford Police Department will only release Police Records Check information directly to the applicant. The applicant will be responsible for sharing the information with the requesting agency.
The Abbotsford Police Department conducts police records checks through the following databases:
- Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) including criminal convictions, outstanding warrants for arrest, charges currently before the courts, stays of proceedings, acquittals, dismissed cases, conditional and absolute discharges and sexual offences that have been pardoned.
- Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME).
- LEIP-PIP: outside agencies' local records located on the PRIME system.
- PIRS local RCMP records.
- A request will also be made to agencies outside of BC where you have resided in the past 5 years.
What is a Vulnerable Sector Search?
An applicant who is identified as working with a person or organization responsible for the well-being of children under 18 years or with vulnerable persons who, because of their age, a disability or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, are in a position of dependence on others or are otherwise at greater risk than the general population of being harmed by persons in a position of authority or trust relative to them as is authorized under the Criminal Records Act.
If you indicate that you are working with vulnerable individuals, you will be required to sign a consent that will allow a search for any sexual offences for which a pardon has been granted, and consent to disclose any pardoned sexual offences.
